GCTE Department of Mathematics
Background of the department
Department of Mathematics is one of the six departments of Gondar College of Teachers Education. The department brings has two units, Mathematics and ICT unit. Each with a strong foundation in Teacher Training Institute and delivers quality education at the diploma level. Since 1997E.C. The department runs degree programs in Mathematics, in affiliation with Bahir Dar University.
Currently, it runs diploma programs in:
- Mathematics
- Mathematics and Environmental Science (Together with Natural science Department)
Vision
By 2020 E.C GCTE Mathematics Department becoming the leading in producing vibrant Primary School mathematics Teachers in the region through providing quality education, research to solve the major societal problems such as poverty and illiteracy.
Mission
In its targeted mission GCTE Mathematics Department is committed to producing high-quality Primary School Mathematics Teachers. The department is committed to producing dedicated primary school teachers who can respond to local, national, and global demands. This will be accomplished through: rigorous academic training in regular, extension, summer and distance education, providing up to date short training for in-service Mathematics teachers, combining research and training to meet with the demands of quality education, and working with local and international partners that share the departments’ aspirations.
Goals of GCTE Mathematics Department
GCTE Mathematics Department has set the following goals for achieving its mission.
- Create a democratic, academic and administrative environment within the department as well as the college;
- Produce qualified, problem-solving and productive generation in mathematics and ict
- Conduct research that is problem-solving and relevant to the community as well as the country;
- Conduct basic research to produce new and/or expand knowledge.
